Oyne Reel Club - where it all started...

The Oyne Reel Club was first established in April 1999 to support the Millennium Weekend Celebrations in June 2000.  Part of the Millennium weekend activities included a ceilidh  and the Reel Club was started to prepare people for this part of the celebrations.  After the success of the Millennium weekend there was enormous enthusiasm to hold regular social gatherings and an annual calendar of events was established including a May Ball and a St Andrew's Ball.  The Reel Club was continued to support people who wanted some preparation for the two annual dances.  Since that time the Reel club has become well established and has attracted a following of dancers from Oyne and the wider community.

The Joy of Scottish Dancing

We try to make the Reel Club as enjoyable as possible and many years ago we turned it into a social event in its own right - people bring their own beverage of choice (generally alcohol - it's a well known fact that a few drinks improves you dancing) and we meet on the first Saturday every month from September to May.

The Oyne Reel Club is open to everybody and we generally get a mixture of people attending on their own, in couples or those who bring their whole family.  There is a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere where people of all ages can meet and have some fun.

We teach people to dance traditional Scottish reels, however, we are not as formal as a Scottish country dance society. We are Reelers (with burls and turns) and almost anything goes as long as everyone is having a good time with no breakages.
